FT8 – Onguard Fire System Issue

Article Ref ART232

The issue I encountered was that the Fire System was not communicating with the ICE Monitor. While the ethernet cable was ok we were not able to PING the CPU. What is normally displayed on the fire system display is only 25% of what is available on a full size screen, so we plugged in a VGA compatible screen. We actually used the ICE screen as it has a VGA port at the back. The photo below shows what we encountered when we plugged in the externall display. Notice that the screen is white and access to the Windows operating system is not available at the bottom of the screen.

The OnGuard program loads, when the fire system is booted-up, and we didn’t have a way of stopping that from happening, allowing access to the operating system. We were thinking that maybe we would have to reinstall Windows CE to get access to the operating system. However we did see an option on the UTILITY MENU “USE WINDOWS DEFAULT SHELL” so we tried it. The system re-booted and it worked. Now we had normal access to close the OnGuard software and the abiltity to check the IP address.

We were able to chek the IP address as follows

Select Settings

Network and Dial-up connections

Select PCI-RTL81391 and then the IP address is visable.

While the IP address was correct it did not start to communicate until we changed the address (still did not work) and returned to the correct address again. Now it started to communicate – a little weird but it worked.
